The Phantom wants to give Gustave all that he can--even if the boy does reject him. Raoul doesn't like the idea of his "son" and nemesis together, he also has nothing left to his name but just that and needs to find a way to climb out of the whole he's drunk himself into. Gustave finds comfort in his darkest secret as he tries to cope with his mother's death, and his new parents. Because I couldn't get the thought of Raoul and The Phantom raising Gustave out of my head.
