As a teen struggling with chronic illness, anxiety, and depression, Lucy Peterson doesn't have a firm grasp on what life is supposed to be like. With more going on beneath the surface then she lets on, Lucy finds herself in a dark place and won't make an effort to get out of it. One day, Lucy makes an attempt to take her own life, but her older sister Addison, stops her. She's bitter about her sister's intervention, until one day when she wakes up in an alternate life where she did kill herself. Stuck as a total stranger, Lucy has to watch her family struggle with the reality that she took her own life. Tension, anger, and destruction ensues for her family and for her friends, and Lucy discovers the reasons behind why her sister stopped her.

After losing her father to his job, Victoria's life quickly takes a 180 when her mother marries a strange man just months after to her husband's death. Having been a minor at the time Victoria had no say in the matter when her mother decided that they would live with Mark in the the middle of nowhere. When the people she runs into start saying strange things, Victoria starts to assume the worst of her mother's husband. Thinking that they weren't safe she takes her mother and she runs for the hills...but time changes things and when things change, people change. Victoria finds herself alone and spiraling down a path of self destruction and what she had refused to believe continued to throw itself in front of her. Can she come to terms with the reality of the everyday world or will she follow her hero to his grave?
