A homeless couple find a abandon building and move into it. They adopt a street child and hide her from her pimp. Only the building is strange. There are spiritual entities within. Not a danger to the homeless family. Deadly to the pimp and his soldiers.

The homeless couple find the child's real relative and finally are convinced to send the child back to her relatives. But not before the spirits of the building reveal themselves. In the process the spirits reveal that what they expected. The building was a living, feeding entity.

I put this story as mature because it discusses things that may be disturbing. Human trafficking, survival sex, child abuse, homelessness, and the control methods used by people involved in human sex trafficking.

I was homeless three times in my life. Much of what happened to me during those periods are reflected in this story as well as researched material from the internet.

She hated them. They loved her with everything in them. The universe truly has a sick way of telling you it's there, doesn't it? From being kidnapped to being abused, that was all Arabella saw in life. It was all she ever knew. They tell you to keep fighting but sometimes you realize... you were just a child. Now she's built herself up using her pain as the next step to her strength. She's learnt how to strive forward even as her past haunts her mind crawling up her back every passing second. That is until the first 7 people who only ever brought her pain find their way back into her life. She has no way to let go of her past when they come right back to her. The world showed her no mercy in it's ways so why should she. ~~~ I let out a small sigh wanting more of this. I wanted to be held like this whenever I felt broken. Feel the way he puts me back together in his arms. It ate at my heart and I could have sworn I felt a feathery kiss on my head. It was as if he could hear my thoughts and was kissing them away for me. Slowly he lets one hand go, the other staying around me as he brings my chin up to him gently wiping my last tears as more fill my eyes. He sees this and his eyes look... crumbled. If you feel this way then why can't you choose me, Dominic. I shake my head from his hands wishing to step back but he pulls me back to him a pain filled groan leaving him. "Just one more minute. Please." His body shook and I brought him closer, feeling our pain become one. Our hurricanes of minds pull away even for the smallest time letting us stand together as one in each other's embrace. He was it for me. But I wasn't his.

The Pale March

They don't chase. They wait. And they already know your truth. After the world fell silent, after machines turned against the minds that made them, a new terror emerged: the Pale Ones. Human-shaped and ghost-quiet, they come not for the body-but for the secrets no one dares to speak. You don't see them at first. But you feel them. Like gravity. Like guilt. Ty Mercer has walked a long way from Fort McCoy, farther than most, and seen what happens when people stop. He's learned to keep moving, even when he can't make the full thirty miles. He's learned the rules-but not the reasons. When he crosses paths with a ragged group of survivors in the shell of an abandoned megachurch, he gives them a choice: walk south or wait to be unmade. Among them: a boy with a gift for sensing the wrongness others ignore, an artist who draws what shouldn't exist, a preacher clinging to fire and judgment, and a woman who's lost more than she'll ever admit. Together, they march-not just to escape the Pale Ones, but to outrun the truths that might doom them first. Because in this world, the ones who fall behind don't scream. They Whisper.
