Pedro Aguirre es un carnicero que lleva años surtiendo en la plaza de mercado de Jamundí. Un día, su amigo José Perea le ofrece una res de buen aspecto a un precio sospechosamente bajo, Pedro guiado por su intuición duda en comprar la vaca, pero finalmente es convencido por las mentiras de su amigo y decide comprar la res. En consecuencia,  su vida se pone en riesgo y termina en una tragedia que deja al descubierto la violencia de la sociedad en la que vive.
