After Captain America: Civil War, the Avengers are in shambles. Steve and his team are training in Wakanda while Shuri works on healing Bucky and his mind. The loss of his team weighs heavily on Stark's shoulders, and so Tony is silently suffering and taking out his anger on his inventions. James Rhodes is making a slow recovery, but many people are watching and waiting patiently for him to heal. Peter Parker is trying to break the news of his superpowers to Aunt May and figure out what he wants to do. Natasha is haunted by her memories and her past. Shuri feels neglected and slowly begins to doubt herself. 
In this Avengers rendition, there are no monsters except for the ones inside. Each superhero is battling their own demons, struggling to let go of the past so they can all see the future.
