"I did try to ask nicely and multiple times, I might add. The time for being nice has come to an end since it doesn't seem to work with you." He passed by the table and stepped down. There weren't many places for her to hide in here but the creature did tell him Amelia came into this room. "Please come out and talk to me." He waited a beat for a response but he didn't get one. "Fine, let me tell you a story. I used to be able to see the creatures clearly but an accident happened when I was younger that damaged one of my eyes. Now they're just blurry to me. But you . . . you can see them clearly and see rare objects. I want you to join me. Be my eyes." He waited again for a few moments for a response he still didn't receive. A thought occurred to him. What if she was hoping that he'd just leave the room? He chuckled quietly to himself in amusement. "I'm not going anywhere. But you know what? It's fine if you decline my offer again. Just know that if you don't come with me, you could come home to find that your parents are dead because of a work accident or some other natural cause. You wouldn't want that would you?" He paused just one more time and began speaking again. "If you come with me today, your parents won't have to die. I can keep them safe. If you don't give me an answer, I'll have my creature kill your parents now and I'll still take you. Do you want dead parents or living parents? It's your choice." Amelia came out of the bay window seat compartment. She was trying to hide her fear and anger. She didn't care what happened to her but she didn't want her parents to die because of her. She took a deep breath. "Fine . . . I'll come with you." He smiled smugly, "Smart choice. There's no need to be afraid of me. Your parents are safe now and I won't hurt you." The sky was a flat, depressing grey and the incessant, soaking rain left her constantly chilled. It was a typical "liquid sunshine" day in the Pacific Northwest. They drove past a single tall scraggly tree on top of a hill shrouded in mist. The creepy tree was full of screaming crows. How could she hear them from inside the bus when she couldn't even seem to hear the voices of the kids around her? Geez, that was an awfully freaking dark image. She shivered and looked away. What did they call a group of crows again? Right, a murder of crows. Perfect. The weather was certainly the only thing that was typical these days, although you'd never know it by looking around the bus at most of the kids as they sat joking and gossiping with each other just like they had before... before that day everything had changed. An eerie silence echoed through the house at the end of Yellow Brooke Street, the wind outside slammed toward the wooden walls making a whistle inside the house from the cracked windows; the front door made a thud each time it slammed toward the wall and the screams from the dead gave the house an uneasiness to it. I stood before the house, while my friends were excited to do the exact opposite of what our parents told us to; I was not. I trusted my mother when she told us to never get close to this place. "You guys ready?" Diana said with joy in her voice, I stuttered. "No.." the fear in my voice was obvious, though no one seemed to care. Dan glanced at me and chuckled. "Really? It's just a house." "It's a haunted house." I said nervously. "Maybe we should trust our parents on this, they told us that it isn't safe for a reason." "You wimp."
