Maxwell McCollugh is a computer genius who works at a bread factory in 2579. The factory has robots controlling the cooking division of the factory and humans controlling the product line and several control rooms. Maxwell, however, created an Artificial Intelligence called ONI that has complete access to the entire factory, but only at his command. His job is to monitor ONI and make sure that she doesn't have any malfunctions, and, if she does, to make sure to fix them. But when Maxwell's life starts to unravel, ONI seems to become less like a creation, and more like a friend.
