Prologue:

Run. Run. Run!
I only had one desire . . . and that was to run; to run as fast as I could, to get away from all the confusion, to save myself from total destruction. It was happening to fast. He came home and destroyed what I had. He was so upset. At what? That I would not know. Everything was a blur, a big confusing and disturbing blur.
Ah crud! Not again. Why do I always manage to go back into the past? I was surrounded by all my posters and stuffed animals. My twin size bed with its gray and black silk sheets. The plasma TV nestled in the corner across my bed. My gray metallic desk with my onyx black laptop closed on top. The room was filled with music I loved. My favorite bands singing to me filling in my soul with life. I smiled as one of my favorite songs came on.
Boom! “Move! Get out of my way you stupid woman!” “Lawrence! What’s wrong?!” “I said move!!!” Thud. I heard my mom screaming. I knew it was best to stay inside my room. I didn’t listen to my mind yet I listened to my heart. I went rushing downstairs and what I saw has scared me for life. There he was my father, beating my mother, bruising her face and causing blood to gush out. “STOP! Daddy please stop it you’re hurting her!” I stepped in-between them hoping to stop him from killing her. It was no use I was weak. He grunted and pushed me aside causing my head to collide on the sharp edge of the night stand counter.
The last words I heard before I went on conscious was my father yelling, “you unfaithful bitch! You want to be with that lame excuse of a man?! Well now you can!” Those were that last words my mom heard before she died. Before he killed her.
*Beep. Beep. Beep!*
I woke up to the horrid sound of my alarm clock. It wasn’t only a nightmare though. It was a flashback as well. I grunted as I realized that today was the day I moved to go live with my aunt Jane. Time to start fresh.
