But as the Civil War unfolds, Southern belle Elizabeth is sent to a boarding school in Massachusetts, forbidden to ever see him again, and the poor farmer John joins the Confederate army to fight for his true love.  As their lives take an unexpected twist, following an arranged marriage, a child who was not born to her fiance, and the death of her dear brother,  Elizabeth must decide where her life is headed.  Will she be forced to marry a man she doesn't love, or will she and John run away to the mountains, the only place she knows she would be happy? The place where the wildflowers grow.
