Liz Asher is just an ordinary girl. Overbearing parents, great friends, and a crush on her best friend, NBD. And this, the summer after freshman year, she's sure is going to be her best summer ever. But when she finds a picture of her and five others, a girl and four guys, it completely changes. She starts to dream about reuniting with them, and finding out what they're doing now. However, her parents have other ideas for Liz, such as staying in Key West and taking summer courses at the college. When a chance comes her way, she hops in a ramshackle two-decker VW bus with her best friend and her dog to find the people in the picture, and ends up having one unforgettable summer.
