At the End of the Night

"Get down from there, Dove!" His voice was shaky, I could feel the fear radiating from his trembling body as he stood only a few feet behind me.
"For what, so I can go back to some stupid party and listen to my parents talk about how much I disappoint them, is that all there is to life?"
"Let's talk about this, please."
I looked out across the lake, trying to peer into the black depths and guess what I would see when I plunged into the cold water.
"What's the point?" My voice cracked.
"Maybe it's about finding something worth living for."
