"A shadow broke away from the wall and reached for her.

She screamed shrilly and waved the iron rod frantically at it, not noticing the container fall in the process.

With a shriek, the shadow dissipated and disappeared.

Thump, thump, thump
Her feet hit the floor as she dashed into a room and slammed the door shut.

Thud, thud, thud
The door heaved under the pounding of whatever was on the other side."
