Nat's world is cruel.

He had come to accept that fact. It was cruel and dark and he couldn't change that. Then, he found 3 rays of light. They pierced that dark, cruel world and warmed him, making everything that had hurt something Nat loved. But then, those lights were snuffed out. Replaced by more darkness. The same lights that had warmed him had turned on him and turned into darkness.

He was done with this world. So he found a new one.

And this world...oh, this world. It was bright. And warm. And forgiving. This world warmed Nat in ways the old world never could have. But there was something wrong. An underlying darkness. One colder and more painful than the last. And it was growing.

No. This world wouldn't become lost to him as the last had. Nat would fight this darkness. He wouldn't run. He would protect his lights. He would not return to the dark. And so, the lonely boy that had run from the darkness, went to war.

The Happiness Monster de IevaMelgalve
24 partes Concluida Contenido adulto
He was born in a utopian society where everybody works together to ensure fair distribution of happiness for all the people. However, he is... different. His callousness, lack of empathy and troubling disregard for happiness of others makes him an outcast in his world. She was born in a merchant's family and took off before her wedding to become a tech-hunter instead. A hundred scars later, she has realized that it was a mistake; and one that she cannot fix, not easily. * When I was a child, I was convinced that there is a limited amount of happiness in the world; that every time when I was unhappy somebody else was a little bit happier, and every time when I was happy somebody got a bit more miserable. Flash forward to utilitarianism, to "Moral Tribes" by John Greene: "..for a utilitarian, the ideal world is one in which everyone is maximally happy, including the baddies. In fact, the ideal utilitarian punishment system is one in which punishments are convincingly faked rather than actually delivered. In an ideal utilitarian world, convicts would be sent to a happy place where they can't bother anyone, while the rest us believe that they're suffering, the better to keep us on our best behavior." The idea was so outlandish and so perfectly SF-ish, in a "what could possibly go wrong?" way, that I thought of a prison planet Miasma almost immediately. And then added things, like bacterial enhancements that can change people's physiology just about in any way imaginable (and are not *that* far fetched). And then threw in intelligent alien life. That is kind of cute. And some weird sexual customs. And.... And then I ended up with a couple of notebooks full of NaNo-scribble, a realization that the story is sprawling in all directions, that it is this weird glob of "something" that is equal parts fun and unpredictable, and that I have always wanted to do serialized fiction.

Iana always felt as if something was missing from her, that kept her from true and unbelievable love. A millennium after Jack was cursed, he finally finds the one thing that that does not only bring him warmth and happiness, but does not freeze from his touch. Iana. Lillian thought that Jack had a cold and harsh heart, and that the half of his soul that she took away from him wouldn't find it's equal. But she was wrong. Forces more than Lillian come to tear the two apart. But is their love stronger than what they fight? Excerpt: "Leave yourself, for the dreams.... Close your eyes, and say goodnight.... I love you, forever and nigh." Jack tried to listen for more, but none came. The sweet and sad melody tortured him, reverberated in his ears and mind. Never in his existence had he heard such a hauntingly beautiful song. Jack closed his eyes. A part of him stirred, deep, deep inside of him awoke, and he snapped his eyes open. The part of him that so many thousands of years ago was taken away was finally found but out of sight. 'It isn't possible," he muttered as the storm grew heavier, "is it?"

Blacklight, America's resident superhero, is going crazy. Perhaps it was being mistaken for a teenager for the thousandth time (at 126 years old.) It could have been the two supernatural beings living inside his head who hate him, each other, and people in general. He might just be tired of the ordinary trials and indignities of The Good Fight, such as being arrested, insulted in eighteen different languages, and pelted with fruit by an ungrateful monkey. Whatever the motive, after more than a century of guarding humankind, acting as a beacon of hope, and battling the forces of evil, he's had enough. He's done his part, and plans to enjoy a semi-peaceful retirement for the rest of his very long life. Still, the world needs a hero, and Blacklight would prefer if the apocalypse didn't happen while he relaxes by the beach. It's up to him to pull a ragtag group of heroes together into a fighting force that Fears No Evil. If he's lucky, some of them may even live.
