Usually Alec Lightwood is good at dealing with things without the extra support but when he almost gets hurt and taken by a new kind of demon: he can't.
In normal Alec fashion, he tries to help himself but when he has too many nightmares and realises he can't, he turns to his boyfriend, warlock Magnus Bane, for help.
