Seventeen-year-old Torissa is a daughter of a charlatan, and she regards magic as nothing more than a trick to earn their daily bread. But ever since the persecution of magicians, she is forced to switch between dusting books in a forgotten library and hunting for food in a monster-infested wilderness. But then her discovery of an old tome and a prophecy threatens to derail all that she stands for. With the aid of the mysterious tome and her magician friends Cheren and Eson, Torissa is now given an option to change everything: to teach how to wield magic as weapon.
Beyond the barricades, monsters grow in number and power in a steady incline, and is in contrast with the decline of manpower brought by a corruption within the higher ups of kingdoms, and it gradually spells an insurgence.
Fate is about to play its cruel hand; Torissa knows it'll force the mortals to their knees, and not a sword in any armory is going to prepare them for what's coming.
