Her skin was pale with strawberry freckles speckled all over. Her legs were long and smooth, yet her arms only reached her hips. Her lips were so smooth, they looked like fondant on a cake. And her hair, her beautiful, lustrous, wavy hair, was like a fiery sun on a bright summer's day.

When her mother sends her to her other mom's town in Oregon, Vivian Kessee is disappointed in how small and bland it looks. It seems as if her summer will be boring and uneventful.
Her mind is changed when she meets the most beautiful girl she's ever seen, who adds sugar and spice to her vacation.
The two girls become best friends in a heartbeat, spending all of their days together. But Summer stirs up new and unfamiliar feelings in Vivian, feelings that she does not want nor understand, and so she shoves them down. Unbeknownst to her, doing so could hurt the people around her.
