Hey, my name is Kadria, I'm eleven years old and I live with my Grandma Rebecca in Seattle Washington. My mum and dad died in a fire when I could barely crawl, so my mean Grandma Rebecca took me in as a maid. (Yes a maid) My room is a small four foot by six feet and other than a bed I have a small boxful of stuff that is placed on a shelf (all of my stuff, about five outfits, two books, and some family heirlooms.) My grandma allows one pair of sheets per month and I don't go to school. I get fed three times a day like a dog, and never get enough sleep as Rebecca nags me to clean late and wake early. That's pretty much my life...boring right? Yea? Then why are you reading this book? Yes, what was that? Like Cinderella? Yes! Like Cinderella! Exactly! Except without the Prince Charming.

Adrianna parties and gets drunk and smokes all the time. One day she just can't stand staying with her dad for any longer and goes to her neighbor Daniel's house till her friend picks her up. She went back completely wasted and needed a place to stay for the night since her dad was on her ass about getting drunk so she stays with him. I hope you like the book, there is going to a mild amount of swearing and lots of drinking and smoking. Everything is made up beside the state they live in. A happy childhood, a so-so adolescence. Then adulthood arrived, and everything went to hell. And by everything, I mean it. Grown-up life is truly a wonderful, dazzling adventure! A job that drains your soul, stripping away any will to live while fueling a more or less justified homicidal instinct; depression knocking at the door with a lovely bouquet of red roses and, last but not least, the remnants of a social life buried somewhere under my shoes. Not the ones I'm wearing now; those are slippers, big difference. I mean the pretty ones in the cabinet that I haven't touched in five years. Love can be destructive. It catches you, ensnares you, devours you, and if you're unlucky enough, it leaves you standing in nothing but your underwear before reducing you to ashes. I had made peace with my "and she lived single, forever unhappy but safe" fate. A house, one, four, eight, maybe twenty cats and a future as flat as a heart monitor that's given up the ghost. No joys, minimal suffering, because there's only so much a heart can take before it calls it quits. And honestly? Fuck it, I'd been through enough. ... But he changed everything. In the worst, most terrifying way possible. From this abyss, I may never climb back out.
