Gwen doesn't know the difference between good or bad. That is to be expected when a murderous, monochrome clown is raising you.
Her parents are killed before her 5 year old self. But that's the thing, the clown said they're sleeping. So someday, they'd wake up and she'd see them.
But as she grows older, moves into the Mansion with her "father", she learns more of herself.
