Marla Jones has always tried to escape reality through the joys of the year long carnival that's right by her neighborhood. She loves spending the day there even if she has to take her brothers.

But when her old elementary and middle school bully moves into her town, reality is forced back onto her. Marla tries her best to ignore him but her efforts only get her sent back to her house in defeat.

All of what she thinks of him turns around when he pushes her into the ocean on the pier.
