It's believed in the moon kingdom when a moon child is born, a beautiful jewel blessed by the Goddess would appear in any kind of shape. The mooners were unfortunate to loose their leaders and the unborn prince along the war and it didn't help the fact the curse was lurking around them and only a true prince as said by the prophecy would be the one to tame it. Luckily one day the jewel shook everyone. Jungkook, the prince of the sun had a mission from the day he was born, it was hard written on the ancient books that his mission was to find the prince of the moon back. A Summer that I won't forget
Let's say the Pines Twins never went to gravity falls when they were twelve. They couldn't go last minute because of an family emergency. Simple as that. The towns folk have already moved on and have all agreed to forget what happened. Dipper and Mabel thought it would be a great idea to spend their summer at Gravity falls.
