Hollow Pier was an old, quiet town. Hardly anyone had kids younger than 14 and nobody ever bothered coming outside anymore. Southern Pass high has been burnt to the ground and Butter Pecan, an old, 24 hour, western style diner is closing down. Dylan and Ashton, 2 best friends, attempt to try and save Butter Pecan. Threatened in the process, they realize Hollow Pier isn't the town it was before. Dylan finds out why Butter Pecan is really closing down and starts to second guess trying to save it. Then, oddly enough, 2 kids arrive to Hollow Pier on the same day. Max and Shalee. The next day, Mellie Thomas is murdered and the day after, Max's dad is arrested. Even after the arrest, the police claim to have not caught the murderer. Now there's a big mystery in Hollow Pier and it's up to the 4 to solve it.

This story is not getting the attention it deserves, so I am attempting to "re-brand" it. Maybe no one "gets" it. If you want to read about "Normal" teenagers, maybe this isn't for you, it's more complicated than that. It's about a teenager who doesn't fit it, but doesn't want to, who has the best two friends that anyone could have. Who watched his father lose his job in the Recession and then loses his home, and how he copes, especially when he learns that their new house is haunted and the ghost is in his room. Michael was an average kid, although he's always stood out. He was a school jock but also a skater whose long blond hair almost reaches his waist. When his parents lived in a house in a home owners association like all his other friends, life seemed normal. Then his father lost his job and suddenly those "friends" weren't there anymore--except for his two best friends, Short Round and Dewey. The three are skaters, good ones, who live for girls and their skateboards. They're also basically good kids who take pride in being different without paying attention to it. When Michael loses his home and his family has to move they have his back. And they are there for him when the ghost girl starts following him around. Mariah was murdered when she was just 15, her remains were never found, although no one but her and her ghost friend, Crazy Girl, know where their bodies are buried. The house Michael now lives in is the one where she lived with her family, and her old room is now his. She appears to him one night, trying to taunt him, but against her will she is falling in love with the boy who lives in her old room. Slowly the two begin to fall in love and Mariah tells him her story, and of the hidden danger that lies up the street from him.
