After learning a great secret of their past, nine children from The Mage Academy in New York have to travel to their homeland, that they recently learned of, to save their parents from Nabu, leader of the Dark Mages, while the inhabitants of the Academy are being held hostage by a band of Dark Mages. As they traverse through this fabled land, they meet peculiar new people and creatures and embark on journeys of self-discovery, finding new powers within themselves and their small group.
