At a young age, Loren Areno lost her mom to cancer. Not long after, her dad was sent to jail. Mrs. Curtis let her stay with them since she was good friends with her mom, but when Loren was 15, Mrs. Curtis sadly passed away too. The brothers still let Loren stay with them but she always had the feeling they hated her. After a severe car accident, Loren pretended to be mute to see if they acted different. This also happened to be around the time her dad was getting out of jail and she has to make a life changing decision... stay with the Curtis', or move hundreds of miles away with her dad.

Oklahoma has never felt like he was a Curtis. He never felt like he was apart of the gang and he never really felt like a greaser. After his parents died things only got worse. He had no one, he was an outsider in his own home, around his own friends, in his own neighbourhood. A story in which you feel like you do not belong is one I think we can all resonate with a deeper level.
