"The pursuit of truth is the only thing worthy of a hero." - Giordano Bruno

A wonderful city, a wonderful life. No one ever starves, no one is without a home, and no one is ever miserable. To keep it that way, all the government requests of you is to keep your glasses on. There are consequences if you don't, but they will never be used. Wearing a simple pair of glasses is such a small price to pay, in order to maintain the luxurious lifestyle.

Then again, maybe it's not worth it. There are a few people now and then who have dared to remove their glasses, out of curiosity, or something more. For Effe West, it's the latter. She will be the only one to remove the glasses and see beyond her rose-coloured society. It takes guts, courage, and incredible stealth. For if the government found out... there would be no more Effe.

His finger trailed up my thigh ever so gently causing my pussy complete torture. He knew what he was doing. He knew this was driving me completely crazy. Just as his fingers were trying to push past my underwear my hand grabbed onto his wrist. "Don't," I warned, in a low voice making sure nobody would notice. "Watch me fuck you in front of every single person here unless Tobias stops looking at you like that." He explained. I glanced over to Tobias who was looking angrier than ever. If Tobias didn't stop looking at me not only would my husband keep to his word, someone would send a bullet through his skull. *+*+* Scarlett Salvadore was to be married to a man she hated with all her heart to increase her father's power. Nothing left my mouth as I stared at him in shock. He truly believed that I was part of this. The man, who I had lived with and served for months. The man who I had protected with my life and soul. I stood still while, as he backed away from me quickly. "I trusted you with my life." His cry pierced around the empty room. He looked so destroyed and hurt, but mostly his face portrayed rage and determation. "And I protected you with mine." I spoke back loudly. I didn't hear myself say it but I knew I did. I look into his eyes even from our distance they seemed to wallow me in darkness. "I gave you mine." My voice was quiet and cracked. His face changed only for a second before his old one took over again. He doesn't believe me. It doesn't matter what I say or do he won't listen. He will still believe I am the bad guy. Just as Kane said, we will never be equals, we will never be fellow humans. We will always be monsters to them. "Yakov, I am not the bad guy." I plead one last time. His Russian accent comes out harsh with his next words. "Your right," he pauses, "you are the villain." I stumble back as if I had just been stabbed in the chest. It was a horrible feeling. It was never good with the emotions and yet I recognize the feeling as heart beak. I barely breathe in air as I regain my posture. A battle cry from somewhere distracts me momentarily. I suddenly remember Ewan. I glare at Yakov one more time before I take off after the cries of battle. Jade believes she started the war among the human and her kind. Nothing is as it was portrayed. The lies and the truth are hidden among each other. There is is no clear good and evil. How can there be if one does not know what is right and what is wrong. She was prepared to see death, prepared to inflict death upon others without mercy or remose. She was prepared to do her job which the Facility had given her. But now it doesn't seem so simple anymore. Instead she focuses on keeping her friends alive.

The Revelation by dstry0515
5 parts Complete Mature
In the beginning, there was death. The darkness flows from hues of purple and orange, the moon rising to kiss the sun's rays one last time as the darkest cloud of night I've ever seen falls over our tiny haven. I catch Will's face from the side of my vision and my heart tightens slightly. The tick of his jaw wouldn't be noticeable for anyone but me. His best friend, his lifeline. A solemn tear forms in my eye as he wipes his face, another tear falling for the family he lost. I love him. Utterly and desperately so, but, there's nothing I can do about that. The ultimate forbidden fruit, if you will. I reach to comfort him and he doesn't respond. I open my mouth to speak and he looks my way, but the gleam in his dark brown eyes hits the moonlight just right and I fall. My voice escapes my throat and I can't do it. I've tried for years to tell him. 10 years, actually. All this time, I hopelessly remained devoted to a ghost who had given the best of himself to a fiery red-head with a sassy personality and the body of a supermodel. For 10 years, I held to the desperate thought that maybe, just maybe, he'd be someone I could count on. Instead, I watched him marry my best friend, smiled as they welcomed their son. Stood, holding that beautiful boy as his mother was in the first round of executions after the beginning of the Revelation. Helped heal Will's wounds in the aftermath. Cried, clutching the tear-stained shirt of my best friend as his son took his last staggering breath in that first harsh winter. The guilt of my emotions crawl through me. My heart twisting in regret, guilt, desperation, and grief. I loved my best friend. She was so much more than that; she was my family. In this dystopian quick read, join a group of people desperate to recapture their freedom and end a tyrant's reign.

Ignoring the dreariness that followed her, she left everything behind and drowned herself in a lifestyle that consisted of constant jet lag and days of sleepless nights. And deep down, she was aware her only survival mechanism was to run away and not look back, even if all she wanted to do was take one more glance at the one who was deserving of a stargazer, not a withering being with nebulous ideas for salvation. After nearly a decade of evasion, Dali realizes this isn't the place she's supposed to be and decides to take a leap of faith back to where everything started, not knowing that she'd be busy unraveling the web of lies created by the unexpected.
