Cold Hearts

Kylie Robinson (43) is the physical embodiment of introversion. She hates all forms of human interaction, lives by herself in a backwoods cabin, and overall just tends to live like a stereotypical hermit.
What about Kylie that really sets her apart is her love for storms- blizzards in particular. Every year around the same time, a series of large powerful blizzards blow through her area. This time is generally referred to by the town folk as 'Whiteout season'. A time when mountains of snow make any kind of transportation nearly impossible, and ruthless waves of ice threaten the stability of every house. Everyone fears it.
Everyone with the exception of Kylie. She seizes the chance to relax by the fire with a book and a warm cup of tea, knowing with absolute certainty that she is- at least for a week- free from the hazard that is humanity; and as this years Whiteout season begins to roll around, she plans to continue this tradition.
Something seems off with this year however. Instead of joyful and serene, Kylie finds herself feeling restless and unnerved. The empty world around her no longer seems peaceful, but instead threatening. Overall, she does her best to carry on, despite these unwelcome feelings, and for the most part, she succeeds.
That is until one particular night, when there is a knock at her door.
And the blizzard rages on.
