Protecting the Essence

We're the things you used to read about in your children's books. You pass by us everyday. In school, on the subway, on the sidewalk. But you don't notice, you never noticed, because you never knew there was anything to notice. We didn't want to be found or heard. We just wanted to exist and try to live as happily as the rest of humanity seemed. But then they came and we were exposed. You didn't understand what we were, you were afraid and had every right to be. It's a natural reaction when you realize the world you're living in is a lie. So you ordered them to lock us away, not fully understanding who they were or what they were capable of.
Now you want our help. But most of us are gone, and the few that aren't, have gone into hiding. And we've been hiding for a long time before this so we know exactly how to stay off the grid.
