Former Amity member, James Wood has always attempted kindness, but failed consistently. Life for James has always been factored down what his test result will be, but when the aptitude test doesn't work on him, his future is limited to one thing only - death. I stand from where I sat on the train floor, and look out the open door of the cart. Below me, all the factions collide into a surge of different colors that form sort of a discolored mess. In general, the faction system has always seemed kind of pointless to me. Ever since I can remember, I always wondered why we were split up into different groups. Storm thought nothing could ever get in her way. But Tobias Eaton, a troubled soul just like she, had a habit of getting into the middle of things.

{BOOK ONE} There are five factions. Each had their own reasoning for thinking why the war had happened. Dauntless; cowardice and fear. They strive to be brave, fearless. Erudite; ignorance. They strive for intellect, to be smart and curious. Candor; deception. They strive to be honest. Amity; they blamed the war itself along with fighting. They strive to be kind, forgiving, peaceful. Abnegation; selfishness. So they strive to be selfless. Dauntless are our police. Erudite are our teachers. Candor is the law. Amity are the farmers. And Abnegation are our government. I would sit on the ground everyday, wearing my yellow dress with black sandals. Wasn't the best thing for me. Dresses made my shoulders to broad, especially the flowing ones. When I was home alone, or with my mother, I would wear I tight black shirt and white shorts. No one would really approve, mostly because they were Candor colours along with the fact it's not... welcoming enough. I never understood Amity, not because of the kindness and the peacefulness; well, mostly the peacefulness. Whenever it should come down to defending ourselves or walking away. We walked away. It confused me. Maybe I wasn't Amity enough to understand. Maybe I wasn't kind enough. Maybe, just maybe, I didn't belong here. So where do I belong?
