Born in 2053, 15-year-old Latika lives in Arcis, the most prestigious city of all Amerax. It's an exciting time for the country previously named America since World War III just recently ended. Technology is booming and permits things that were unimaginable only a couple of years back. Medicine too is at its peak: illnesses have no secrets for the medical specialists and people rarely die before reaching the hundreds. The economy however, is very unstable and riches are unequally distributed... with Amerax getting the most of it. Instead of notifying the world of the impending grid failure, he builds a vast arsenal nuclear plants to power his land against the rules, and when the grid falls, his lights and machines keep running. When finally his arrest occurs, he finds himself in a unique situation, offered a position in the TROIKA - but if he declines, then a life of darkness behind bars awaits him. The goal of the TROIKA is simple: Be quick, be correct, be ready. It doesn't take long for USSR and America to loathe each other on principle, each with their own goals and ideals, clashing on everything from fashion to economics. Can they push away their pride and save the world, maybe even themselves? Or will their bitterness engulf everyone in thick, oily darkness forever? A single choice will ultimately decide their fate.
