In the future, real magic is heavily regulated by the Catholic Church and society is ruled by a Catholic hierarchy. The lesser Christian faiths are allowed into the middle class, but the majority of the poor is pagan. Enter Maria Carvo, a devout Catholic nun who takes a wrong turn and ends up in the ghetto surrounded by the people "Cathies" scorned.
