Being trans was never supposed to be a secret, but marriage, kids, career, and hormones have made this aspect of Xander's identity invisible. For the most part he's happy about this. It's comfortable. 

Then, a fourth grade student at the school where Xander works comes out as trans, causing him to reevaluate his identity and forcing him to confront the larger implications of just passing.

Noah is a FTM, or Female to Male transgender. Some girls don't exactly find that a turn on, especially since he's too young to get the full surgery, and his dad isn't exactly on board with it. He's pretty much given up on finding a girl who will just give him a chance to prove himself.
