Nagisa Shiota wakes up besides a lake in an unfamiliar world without a single memory of his life, other than his own name and age. Upon awakening, he encounters a stranger who presents himself to be malicious and tries to drown him. Fortunately, he is saved by a man with bright bloody red hair and painfully beautiful eyes. 

Lucifer is the underworld for the dead. Those who have been killed or died in their previous lives, are sent to the deepest parts of Hell with amnesia. Lucifer offers everyone a chance to live again but comes at a price. Humans must gain access to the all gate keys, those in which open the 12 Gates of Lucifer. However, if one dies before reaching the final gate, their existence on earth is erased and their soul is consumed by the creatures of Lucifer known as yokais.
