Alekzandra grew up in the nation of Herakleum. Kill to survive. Thats the unspoken rule. With both parents dead and an abusive step-father and step-brother, there is nothing left for her. Until the recruitment ceremony.
Each year, all 19 year olds have to survive two and a half days in 'the caves', awaiting ambushes, bombings, and firing squads. Whoever survives unscathed is welcomed into society. Those that survive injured,are cast out. Surviving the recruitment ceremony means Alekzandra will have to live the rest of her life under her step-fathers rule. Not surviving means death. Death means she failed, both her parents and herself. And that is the last thing she wants to do.

I jumped to my feet and punched him in the side. There was hardly an effect. "You're weak" he spat, walking a step closer towards me. I growled as I had had it with this blood sucking devil! There is a world out there where I could have been happy. Where we could have been friends, and you could have benefited from what I know. Unfortunately, we don't live there.
