Patricia the doll is Mary's very best friend--Mother assures her that she is special and that is why the other school children do not keep her company. Patricia has only half her limbs, but Mary loves her nonetheless. Mother is harsh sometimes, but Mary is sure she knows best. She does so try her best to please her, but no matter how hard she tries, it isn't often enough. Oh no! Where has Patricia gone? Now Mary is all alone...and Mother seems angry.
