___ Prologue___

My heart was pounding.

I kept silent. I couldn't make a sound.

Then I heard it again. The rustling.

It became silent once again. My breathing was the only thing audible.

Click.

That's when I knew I was no longer alone in the house. The house that I thought was suppose to be safe. Just Alejandro and me.

Not anymore.

I heard heavy footsteps making their way around the first floor.

I quickly detangled my way out of my covers and grabbed the house phone from my night stand.

Crouching, I crawled under my bed, phone clutched in my hand.

I put the phone on silent so it wouldn't make noise while I dialed.

I held my breath, my fingers finding the only number I had memorized other than 911. Alejandro.

Beep, Beep, Beep, Beep.

Why wasn't he answering. I no longer heard the footsteps. My heart skipped a beat. What if the intruder was heading up here?

I start to cry silently.

The split second before I lost all hope in ever hearing Alejandro's voice again, he answered.

"Bueno? Chiquita , are you okay? What's wrong?"

"Ale- Alejandro , some-someone is downstairs," I whispered.

1 beat.

2 beats.

3 beats of silence.

I knew there was nothing that he could do for me right now other than talk to me and say everything will be alright.

WATTPAD BOOKS EDITION There are imperfect moments in every life-but sometimes, there are perfect accidents . . . What's the point of pretending nothing has changed when everything has? It's the last summer before college, and Jonas Avery knows he should be excited. Instead, he hides out at home, avoiding his friends, his family, and everything that resembles his old life. Because nothing will be normal again-because of The Accident, when everything started falling apart. Brennan Davis knows she needs to stand up and face her anxiety-the deep, dark, debilitating dread that rules her everyday life. Because what stops her from going out into the world and just living is going to get a whole lot worse. She's leaving for college in the fall, where she'll be confronted with even more to worry about. To get back up sometimes you have to fall down, hard . . . When Jonas crashes into Brennan-in a harmless, albeit embarrassing fender bender-the two teens connect in ways they never expected. As friends, they help each other overcome their biggest falls and faults, and soon discover that while love can't fix everything, it's sometimes a place to start. Sensitive, wry, and unabashedly authentic, The Opposite of Falling Apart isn't about finding perfection in another person or fixing the things we think are broken. Instead, Micah Good has penned an enchantingly honest novel about accepting the very pieces of ourselves that make us unique, whole, and undeniably human.
