(this book is undergoing some edits, so there will be lots of sporadic and random chapter updates) "I wouldn't say I'm scared of the height itself," he explained, keeping his eyes away from the ground below us. "It's more the fear of how long it would take to land that gets to me." ~~~ Like most teens her age, Kalina Parrish thought that she had it all figured out. That her life would get better when she graduated high school and moved on to bigger and better things. But when she wakes up to a vague voicemail from her dad, she wasn't prepared for it to drastically change her life. Her perception of her father took a complete one-eighty, and she doesn't know who to turn to for help. So when her grandfather winds up in the hospital with symptoms no one can make sense of, she finds that things just don't stop changing. Kalina's problems are shot up to one hundred, leaving her with more questions than answers, along with a mysterious gold-eyed asshole that just keeps popping up in her life. Now with a mind full of new information of a life that she never knew existed, what will Kalina do with herself- stay in her comfort zone and live a normal life, or take the leap into the unknown with her family?

Shadows

"You know it won't go to the West," he said dropping his voice. "Maybe you're wrong. Who knows," she shrugged. Her shoulders had slumped but she had managed to not let any tears spill. "Baum knew what he was doing when he made the West wicked, Mary," he hissed. "The East was wicked in that book too, dumbass," Mary retorted. Jacob's hands went into fists to keep from pushing at his hair. The tree behind them began to shake slightly. The ground gave a tiny rumble. *************************************************** Mary's father recently passed. But she is finding out it might not have been from natural causes... Family adversaries threaten everything while influential other worldly authorities pull the strings. Mary will have to work with an unlikely ally from her childhood to navigate their new found powers and reclaim balance. Meanwhile... one dark soul is climbing the ladder of chaos. Feel free to leave a message. I love comments! As the story progresses you might notice some subtle (and not so subtle) parallels to the Wizard of Oz. As I always advise my students- give it three chapters before setting it aside. Thanks for reading and enjoy! ☺️ This book is in a perpetual state of needing editing. I hope to return to the chapters to add some details. I'm hoping for a sequel as time allows. Oh, the life a middle school teacher... MORE TIME, I NEED MORE TIME. ‼️‼️Warning: Mild Language Please be advised.
