Elizabeth Laurelson's life has been ruled by the American Revolution. With her family split apart by the war, Elizabeth's once extravagant lifestyle is put on hold, and she is sent to live and work with a distant relative in New York City, a bustling hub filled with Colonial unrest. There, she meets her uncle's apprentice Nathaniel, a King's College student whose political beliefs surprise her, and lead her to question herself and her actions. As the war progresses, Elizabeth must come to terms with not only her own beliefs, but the ideas of those around her, and figure out how she will make her way in a new city completely engulfed by the revolution.
