Shortly after the death of her parents in the second half of the eighteenth century, Rosalie learns about an old, but forgotten, part of her fathers will. At only 17 years old, she is sent to Italy to marry into the scandalous Ricci family so that she may accept her inheritance. She finds the trip to Italy difficult, but not as difficult as her new marriage.
