"If I were a boy" is a diary of a young maiden named Dije, who decides to write about her life for as long as she remembers.
On her next journey, she describes about the struggle she had to deal after her father's new marriage. Not only did she suffer and had to give up her only place to be free, the school, but also she has to hide her feeling for the young boy named Shpendi.

"If I were a boy" is an Albanian epistolary novel written by Haki Stermilli in 1936. Written in a form of diary entries it documents the struggle of the young female protagonist Dija to adjust in an Albanian patriarchal society, which was common during the time the novel was written.
