Stephen and Annabel are two siblings living happily together, and their father is a farmer. Despite being a bit poor, they are content. One day, their mother falls ill with a fever and passes away. The family mourns, and the father works even harder to forget his pain. He can't spend time with his children. Realizing he can't take care of them, the father decides to enter into a marriage of convenience with a woman. While Annabel doesn't mind, Stephen is worried, and unfortunately, his concerns prove to be true. The stepmother is very oppressive and starts to abuse 8-year-old Annabel. Though Stephen tries to protect his sister, he doesn't possess the magic knowledge like her stepmother, and he receives punches and slaps in return. Although Stephen gets used to this situation, he is still worried about his sister. He wants to work in secret and save money to escape with his sister, but life is full of surprises...
