Damon shrugs, his eyes sarcastically sweet.
"Sure. Now tell us what's up."
Stephanie takes a deep breath.
"Well, from the looks of it, your girlfriend is a doppelgänger." Her eyes shift to watch me. "And, well, the original doppelgänger was human when she died. So, in order for them to be truly identical, nature made it so that Elena, here, would always be able to reproduce, given that she has a system that is identical to a human. So, long story short, my guess is that your girlfriend is pregnant. Congrats, buddy."
There's a lingering silence in the air. Stephanie's smirking, Damon's frozen, and I'm almost positive my expression is somewhat a mixture of fear, shock, and disbelief. We stay like this for awhile, until Damon narrows his eyes at the waitress.
"What now?"
