When the being that created the universe started creating man, man struck a bargain. In order for man to not destroy everything the being had created, there had to be someone for every person. Someone they could love for all their lives even if not romantically. Just someone to keep all humanity kind, caring, loving, and safe. A soulmate of some kind. Romantic or friendship. And they had to have distinguishing marks to each other so they knew. The being agreed, not wanting his world to be destroyed. Now to the present. Everyone is born with a small tattoo on the inside of their left wrist. The being that created the universe had multiple children and his latest daughter is trying to find the person with the broken heart on their wrist.

In this society, everyone has a soulmate. And the way to find yours is just look. Along with a soulmate, everyone has a small tattoo on their cheek with a symbol. Some could be a star, a flower, a yinyang, a fish, or even waves. There are so many people that the symbols are almost limitless. The tattoos don't care about gender or number. There could be gay matches, and there could even be polyamorous matches. The tattoos will tingle when you are near to your sm. And they will glow if you have found only one of your sm's if your match was poly. The trick is, you don't get the tattoo until you are 16. And even if you are near your match, as long as one of you are not of age, your tattoo will not tingle. Also, they are normal tattoos (except you don't get it or choose it, it just appears) so you can get rid of it. But if you do, your sm won't die but they will get very sick. The main characters of this story, Violet West (18) and Harper Black (20), both have a flame tattoo on their cheek. They live in the same state but for 4 years Harper paniced because she couldn't find her match. She wasn't sure if it was because her sm wasn't of age yet or if her sm lived far away. For 2 years Violet also paniced but she knew that some people don't find their sm for 5-10 years after they come of age, so she wasn't as scared as Harper.
