"In Japan, the Koancho (also called as the Public Security Intelligence Agency or PSIA) has formed the Rakukanteki Division - special operations made up entirely of vampire hunters. They take those from the top ten graduates of Koancho's training institute every year who choose to carry the burden of protecting the public from vampiric existence. These hunters are highly-trained to do undercover missions wherein they blend with the civilians in order to discreetly investigate crimes that might have been done by vampires. Their missions are top secret for anyone who is not a hunter except for the prime minister."

Rinko Harada has survived death from vampires in her childhood but she has never gotten away from them - nor does she want to. Missions after missions she has accomplished but they just can't be enough for the nightmares to stop coming until a new case presents itself in Kyoto. Along with new people she is forced to trust, she goes back to her hometown where her life has stopped being normal to investigate a massacre of a family that hunters consider to be a lead to finding the remaining pureblooded vampires in the country who disappeared ten years ago. With dread coiling around her waking hours, Rinko uses every ounce of her wits to find and stop these special vampires from turning innocent humans into monsters like them.
