Ryan, Oliver and I go around the school like it’s a race track, each time a little faster. We end up pedaling so hard that I feel any faster and we’ll be flying through the sky like another version of E.T. The Extra Terrestrial.
I smile to myself at this silly thought, loving the ride. The whoosh in the air combined with golden colored leaves makes me giddy. I let out a small giggle, and pedal as fast as I can go. When I’m far ahead of them, I spin in a circle and scream for victory as I see them approach.
Now it’s Ryan’s turn to race ahead. He decides to enter the old forest path so I follow him, closing in. He speeds past the evergreens, faster now, so I imagine they’re only blurs. I will my legs to pedal that fast, and luckily, they obey. I finally catch up, leaving Oliver in the dust, panting next to Ryan with my legs burning.
