After Aria's death, Elijah realised how much he had cared for her, and thought about the things he should have done. But it was too late now, they hadn't done those things, and she was gone.
He fell into a deep downwards spiral of self blame, self hate, grief, and eventually diagnosed with severe depression.
When she returned, everything was the same, except she wasn't a deviant anymore. Most of her memory had been wiped or partially damaged in either uploading to the cloud, or whilst uploading them to her. And he was more distant than ever. All that, just because he didn't want to be hurt again.

She screamed and cried, she developed a bi-polar disorder and a rude, aggressive, and solitary attitude. Hank made no move to scold her for her actions because he was the same way, the only comfort they had was their dog, Sumo, and alcohol. That is until an android entered their lives - RK800. He became Hank's new partner in the investigation on deviants. Skye was nothing but cold and rude to the docile and innocent android, but no matter how angered she would get when he spoke to her, or how restricted and quiet she would act around him, her introverted personality only drew Connor in, despite her pushing him away.
