I was lonely, I realized. I had forgotten the feeling of having other people beside me at all times: of constant, comfortable noise. I wasn't used to the silence. It was overbearing, not malicious, but sad. I wondered if my ever constant depression was a factor of this increasing loneliness, but I didn't know how to fix it.

Sam felt a sudden shift. She was more aware now, more frightened of things she wasn't frightened of before. She supposed it was all in her head. It was, but that didn't make it any less terrifying.

So now, as she tried to collect her thoughts, she began to realize just how hard it was.
