Aubrey Carthy lives with her mom in Beaufort, South Carolina. She's sixteen and is an only child. Her mom is a nurse in the town hospital and her dad works abroad, in England. Her mom Natalie, has a co-worker, Catherine Parker who happens to have a son who needs babysitting.
