Seven Almond is part of the Fairy-folk Community, a massive city of Elves that live in the woods, and so far - for everyone else - it's been all rainbows, sparkles and tiger butterflies until the bitter midnight of December 1864, when Seven's best friend - Autumn - goes missing. The next morning, whispers of her absence have spread like fire and now it's all anyone talks about.

However, Seven doesn't seem fazed by this, and just carries on with life as his silent, uninterested self. 

Each day after Autumn goes missing, another person disappears.

And another.

And another.

The funny thing is, they're all close to Seven. People start to get a little suspicious about why he isn't sad at all, until his cousin, the Mayor's daughter, goes missing. Suddenly, half the city blows up with questions that are fired at him non-stop.

Three days after that, Seven disappears, last sighted in the pieces of a smashed mirror.

So three years later, when a young boy named Eight - who bears no resemblance at all to Seven - returns in exact the same place the mirror smashed, nobody thinks anything of it.

They thought wrong.
