She stood across from me, fists clenching at her sides, standing in only a thin gray top and leggings. Tears streaked her face, but she didn't wipe them away, she let them fall freely. "No," despite the tears on her face and her shaky hands, her voice was strong, commanding. "I don't believe you." "Why?" I croaked out, reaching towards her, but she flinched away from my hand, shoulders tense and jaw ticking. "Because, how can you love me," now her voice broke with all the emotions hitting her at once. She began again, "How can you love me when you don't even love yourself?❞
