Venomous Tongues is a satirical poem about the corrupt nature of political office holders in Nigeria. It presents the Nigerian situation in a dining table setting in which the participants dig into the morsel (crude oil) without fear or favour to anyone. The political leaders are metaphorically describes as wolves & predators of each other. The poem is a free-verse, run-on-line poem with no spaces for pauses used to convey the serious nature of the theme. The themes of the poem are: Corruption, War, Political Instability among others

"You want to have sex with me? Just sex, nothing else attached?" "Is it so bad? Don't you want me too?" Chike's eyes were focused on her and she could feel the heat as if laser beams were being projected on her. "This will get complicated fast." "If it does, we take a break and talk things out. What matters is that we stay friends when this is done. I don't want to lose my best friend," Ada said. "How can I say no to that?" *** After five years away from the country and silently pining for his best friend, Ada, Chike returns to Nigeria. The one thing that has been keeping him going was the promise he made to himself that once he was back, he'd confess to her. Imagine his shock when Ada introduces him to her boyfriend. Would he step back after all these years of waiting? Or would he do everything possible to get his girl. On the outside, Ada and her boyfriend John are the happiest couple but what the public doesn't know is that there are a lot of pains hidden underneath. Ada is convinced that with a little time, John would change so she continues to make excuses for his excesses. After all, love is patient.
