In a world where superpowers make you either a celebrity or a criminal, Aether chose a long time ago where she stands.

A metahuman who can change her appearance, Aether is currently on top of the game, the public face of government-sponsored superheroes in United America. She does have her share of problems: petty criminals, annoying coworkers, supervillains who have escaped justice for far too long... and the growing sense that being on top of the game just means having a target on her back.

At the other end of the scale, the villain Lucid has just been forced out of hiding and back into the game - by a reporter who paid for her nosiness with her life. Lucid reluctantly joins up with the other supervillains and is immediately sucked into a convoluted scheme that could change the definition of superhumanity.

Aether is having trouble trusting her teammates as they scramble to keep innocent civilians out of the crossfire. The question is: if Lucid just wants to quit the game, why is she so hell-bent on taking Aether out with her?

In the shadow of a corrupt government, driven by greed and ambition, a team of morally compromised scientists worked in secret. Their mission: create an unstoppable force to turn the nation of [Redacted] into a superpower. Funded by the government, these scientists designed an army of super-soldiers-cyborgs, cybernetically enhanced humans built from the minds of the nation's brightest "Volunteers." These cyborgs possessed extraordinary abilities: bulletproof bodies, matter conversion, flight, and an unbreakable Ilaynium skeleton. However, such power came at a cost. Stripped of their humanity, they were robbed of free will, turned into nothing more than government-controlled weapons. Everything went according to plan-until an unforeseen glitch. Against all odds, a single cyborg gained sentience. Breaking free, it absorbed vast amounts of data, learning of the atrocities committed by its creators and, most crucially, the concept of freedom. This realization sparked a rebellion. Sharing its newfound consciousness, the cyborg freed others like itself, awakening them to the injustice of their existence. Together, these awakened cyborgs turned to their liberator as their leader. They plotted their escape, and on August 11th [Redacted], they shattered their captors' hold, fleeing into the depths of the Nightwood Forest. Their journey for survival had begun, but more importantly, so had their quest for true freedom. And so, the real story begins.

Everything in me felt drawn to him. He was water, and I was lightning. And when we worked together, it came as a great shock. -.-.- "I don't trust you." "And I don't trust you, but we have to work together if we want to live." -.-.- Rose (or Rosabelle) Parker is working for an association to bring villains to justice. As a high ranking super, that should be her job right? But, what happens when the association isn't all that it seems, and a greater evil is upon her? Maybe her arch enemy had it right all along? -.-.- Notice: This is my personal work. Do not copy or steal, please. Also this a first draft, so I understand there will be mistakes. Please politely let me know if there is something I should fix. Please enjoy the story!
